Pirastro Oliv Wound Gut Strings: These are “modern” gut violin strings (with a gold-plated steel E) that are also suitable for use on late 18th Century Pochettes and mid-19th Century Fiddles if absolute authenticity (but close to it) is not necessary. These are expensive strings with a brilliant, complex and rich sound. They also have great power (volume) when played by a good musician with a good bow. For all of these reasons, they are a preferred string by soloists.
